The menhir is classified as Historic Monuments by order of 12 July 19891.
It is a monolithic quartzite block with a height of 2.70 m, 2 m wide and 1.15 m2 thick. According to Abbé Baudry, three other small standing menhirs were visible in the area near the Ognon stream.
These menhirs gave their name to the seigniory of Grande-Roche, the cradle of the family of La Roche-Saint-André.
